JOB TITLE: CARRIER SALES REP

 

Position Purpose

As part of our Freight Management Group’s carrier sales team, you will work closely with our network of carriers, as well as develop new relationships focusing on improving efficiency and managing transportation costs. You will be responsible for taking a proactive approach in mastering the pricing and capacity fluctuations in the truckload shipping market. You will coordinate the successful movement of loads based on customer requirements, perform carrier compliance and work with our outsourced network of transportation partners.

 

Job Functions

  • Negotiate rates with carriers for maximum profit while simultaneously providing excellent customer service. Collect, document, and disseminate accurate information to/from Carriers and Drivers and between internal departments.
  • Dispatch drivers to designated shippers, consignees, and intermediate stops if applicable.
  • Collect all required information from drivers before dispatching and provide accurate and detailed information regarding directions, load information, pick-up/delivery times/numbers as well as all other special load related information.
  • Manage carrier issues and resolve carrier operational problems including unplanned accessorial charges and accounting discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain quality working relationships with transportation providers, customers, and warehouses by using various means of communication.
  • Represent our customer when working with the contracted carrier.
  • Prospect carriers daily to further grow and develop Pratt’s Freight Management Group carrier base.
  • Collect and document all available equipment from carrier partners.
  • Document all preferred lanes, live trucks and services offered by carrier partners.
  • Communicate new transportation provider opportunities to appropriate stakeholders of Pratt’s Freight Management Group.
  • Review carrier credentials to ensure they meet Pratt’s Freight Management Group’s compliance requirements.
  • Send rate confirmations to carriers that document all requirements and verify receipt.
  • Identify and communicate ways Pratt’s Freight Management Group can continuously improve in its operations.
  • Source and procure carrier services to ensure timely pick-up and delivery of customer freight.
  • Establish deep and mutually rewarding relationships with carriers to expand capacity opportunities.
  • Work effectively with your sales and operations colleagues at Pratt to provide seamless efficient experience for our customers.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Through words and actions support Pratt’s mission, vision, and values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
  • Maintain company, employee, customers confidentiality.
  • Accept ownership of available loads and be committed to ensuring that it is properly covered
  • Ensure freight is booked with sufficient information and all customer needs and requirements are met.
  • Engage in constant conversation with carriers regarding capacity needs and share this information with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in carrier development initiatives.
  • Effectively manage your workload to ensure all booked freight is covered and moved on a timely basis.
  • Follow all work rules as written in the company handbook and company policies and procedures or as communicated by the company Human Resources Department.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

 

Key Knowledge and Experience

  • High School diploma with some college preferred. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 0-1 years of Sales, Marketing, Operations, or Customer Service experience or at least 0-1 years of experience in carrier sales / brokerage is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a deadline driven environment preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer software programs necessary to perform job function.
  • Driven & competitive nature with impressive negotiation skills.
  • Strong problem solving & decision-making abilities
  • Quick learner who is successful at multi-tasking
  • Willing to constantly look for ways to improve performance
