Overview:

Sentara Norfolk General is looking for an experienced Exercise Physiologist with either CCRP or ACSM CEP certification who is looking to be off weekends and holidays!! The candidate should be flexible and available to work within the hours of 0630-1730 M-F for 36-40 hours per week.

The Exercise Physiologist II will educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care, empowering them to make informed decisions about their health. The EP II will monitor and record vital signs, observe changes in patient conditions, and respond promptly with appropriate interventions. Utilizing sound clinical judgment, the EP II will manage complex health situations, consult with medical team members as needed, and document all care in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.  The EP II will assist the department leader in completing requirements for AACVPR program certifications. (American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Professional Certification Commission).

The EP II is expected to uphold the highest standards of patient safety, adhere to evidence-based protocols, and contribute to a supportive and empathetic environment. As a patient advocate, the EP II will work to ensure each patient’s comfort, dignity, and well-being while fostering trust and a sense of security. This role demands a commitment to continuous learning, adaptability to evolving healthcare practices, and dedication to promoting the mission and values of the healthcare organization. 

The EP II has advanced specialized training, clinical experience, and possesses a principal level of functionality in the Cardiopulmonary Rehab department. The EP II makes independent clinical decisions within their scope of practice and without the need for direct oversight or supervisory approval from registered nurses or leadership. The EP II independently conducts patient evaluations, develops and implements treatment plans, manages exercise prescriptions, and creates educational curricula without direct daily oversight. The EP II is fully qualified to provide comprehensive cardiopulmonary rehabilitation care and often serves as a preceptor for onboarding RNs and other department clinicians.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Certification/Licensure

Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CCEP) - Certification - American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) OR Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP) - Certification - American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Professional Certification Commission (AACVPR) required.

Also, Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI as well as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI both required.
