Overview:

Sentara is hiring a full-time Day Shift Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for the Dedicated Oncology Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA.

Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Norfolk, VA

Status: Full-time, 36 hours per week

Shift: Days

Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Weekends: Every other weekend availability required

Holiday Rotation: Required

Oncology 6 RP Unit Overview

The Oncology 6 RP Unit is a 36-bed inpatient Intermediate Care Unit dedicated to caring for patients with cancer. Nurses on this unit provide compassionate, specialized care while monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, delivering chemotherapy and other treatments, and supporting patients through complex care needs. Care provided on this unit includes chemotherapy, hospice, radiation, stem cell transplant/CAR-T, radioactive iodine, and symptom management.

  • Work within one of the country’s largest cancer networks, accredited as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer experts, to support individualized patient care.

  • Provide care in an environment that prioritizes advanced, evidence-based technology and treatments, including innovative radiation therapies, robotic surgery, and HIPEC®.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred

Certification/Licensure Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire

  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hire

Experience Requirements

  • 18 months RN experience required

Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area and provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department. Under the direction of the department manager leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on and simplifies workflow, and contributes to the development of staff. Increase staff satisfaction and promotes excellent (Gold Standard) customer service.
