The Norfolk office of Kaufman & Canoles is seeking a Time & Billing Clerk. Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office, highly organized, detail oriented, and an effective communicator with strong writing skills. This role requires someone who works well as part of a team while also staying motivated and productive independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generate and distribute pre-bills.
  • Review and revise pre-bills in response to attorney and paralegal requests.
  • Prepare and send client invoices.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of billing entries and supporting documentation.
  • Research and respond to inquiries regarding billing questions or issues.
  • Post expenses to client accounts.
  • Maintain organized billing files and related records.
  • Interact professionally and communicate effectively with attorneys, paralegals, clients, and accounting team members.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and firm matters.
  • Collaborate closely with employees in the Accounting Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ā 

  • Related legal billing experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Prior law firm experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong multitasking ability, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment and independently with minimal guidance.
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment, including copier, scanner, and telephone systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using business systems and tools, including databases and search functions.
  • Ability to routinely lift, carry, push, pull, or slide materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
