The Cyber Threat Hunter proactively searches for threats within NIWC CSSP networks by analyzing cyber intelligence, vulnerability reports, and adversarial tactics. This role is responsible for identifying Indicators of Compromise (IoCs), monitoring cyber threat sources, and producing intelligence reports to enhance cyber defense operations. Key Responsibilities include conducting proactive cyber threat hunting using open-source and classified intelligence sources; analyzing threat bulletins, alerts, and intelligence reports from multiple government agencies (NSA, DIA, USCYBERCOM, etc.); developing custom Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) and threat detection signatures; performing daily monitoring and analysis of cyber threat warnings and vulnerability reports; coordinating threat intelligence activities with vulnerability management and incident response teams; providing recommendations on risk mitigation strategies based on threat intelligence; mentoring junior analysts and contributing to cyber threat analysis training programs. Qualifications vary by level, requiring experience from 2 years to 10 years in cybersecurity or related fields, with corresponding education levels from High School Diploma or GED to Master's degree, and clearance requirements of Secret / Top Secret SCI. Certification requirements include 8570 Compliant IAT 2 or 3 and additional DoD 8140 manual certifications for higher levels. Salary ranges vary by level and experience, from $65,200 to $209,600 based on national averages and candidate qualifications.
