Position Summary: Banks Construction is seeking a Field Heavy Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment and diesel trucks in the field. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to minimizing downtime and keeping equipment operating safely and efficiently.


What You'll Do:

  • Travel to job sites to perform on-site diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment and trucks
  • Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes
  • Complete service reports and document repairs performed
  • Communicate with operators and supervisors regarding equipment issues and repair timelines
  • Maintain service truck inventory, tools, and equipment
  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies

Typical Equipment Worked On:

  • Excavators
  • Dozers
  • Loaders
  • Asphalt pavers
  • Skid steers
  • Dump trucks & tractor-trailers

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working on heavy equipment and/or diesel trucks preferred
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical troubleshooting
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently in the field
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Must own basic mechanic tools (specialty tools may be provided by company)
  • Welding/fabrication experience is a plus
  • OEM certifications or training are a plus

  • Ability to lift 50–100 lbs regularly
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to climb on/off equipment and work in tight spaces

 Work Environment: This position is primarily field-based and includes exposure to dirt, grease, noise, weather, and construction job site conditions.
