The Role:
The Application/Industrial Engineer acts as an automation consultant and is responsible for determining requirements, product selection, and operational recommendations for potential Seegrid customers. The Application/Industrial Engineer needs to have a systems-level technical understanding of Seegrid products as well as customer process flows in warehousing, logistics, and manufacturing. This position supports the Seegrid sales team by assessing customer sites and developing custom automation solutions using Seegrid technology. The role also includes assisting with customer presentation, and requires day-to-day interaction with sales, engineering, product development, external partners, and end customers.
Our AMR lineup spans three core form factors: the Tow Tractor for heavy payload transport, the Lift RS1 for low-lift pallet handling up to 6 feet, and the Lift CR1 for high-reach applications up to 15 feet and 4,000 lbs. Each AMR runs on our proprietary autonomy stack and is managed through Fleet Central, our enterprise fleet management software platform. The portfolio is rounded out by a growing set of accessories including battery auto-chargers and barcode scanners, handshake sensors, and hitch-mounts (auto and manual). In addition to our current offering, several new products are in development intended to expand our addressable market into new applications and customer segments.
Responsibilities include:
- Support sales by recommending Seegrid automated material handling solutions based on customer requirements
- Travel to customer sites to gather solution design data, spot automation opportunities, and build relationships
- Analyze and validate customer data to guide key design decisions
- Provide technical consultation on material movement automation best practices
- Demonstrate the financial value of Seegrid solutions to customers
- Create AutoCAD layouts optimizing AMR travel routes
- Select appropriate products and determine required fleet sizes
- Conduct live product demonstrations at Seegrid HQ and customer facilities
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert and define best practices for customers
Education/Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or HS diploma/GED with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Ability to travel at least 50% of the time during busy stretches, including Canada and Mexico, with short lead time
- Proficient in Google Workspace and spreadsheet data analysis
- Excellent communication skills and comfortable presenting to customers
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking
- Effective organization, project management, and multitasking skills
- Proactive self-starter comfortable in high-pressure environments
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients and partners
- Required experience in process design and optimization
- Bias for action and ability to navigate ambiguity
- Experience conducting time studies and identifying operational improvements
- Strong team player
Desired Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of relevant experience
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Experience delivering AMRs at scale in real-world industrial environments
- Experience in manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, e-commerce, or related market
- Simulation experience is a plus
- Experience with PLCs or APIs is a plus
Work Requirements:
- A valid U.S. driver's license
- Ability to sit/walk/stand for up to 8 hours per day
- Currently located or willing to relocate to the Pittsburgh, PA, Ohio, or Detroit, MI areas
