General Description:

The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV) is the country’s leading nonprofit culinary and hospitality training institute. CALV’s mission is to train people for successful hospitality careers in Las Vegas. CALV’s vision is to reduce poverty and eliminate unemployment by providing employability and vocational skills to youth, adults, and displaced workers.

The Adjunct Instructor - Culinary (on call) is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging culinary instruction to students enrolled in CALV programs. The position involves teaching both theoretical and practical components of culinary arts, providing instructional coverage as needed, teaching Continuing Education (CE) courses when requested, and performing other administrative duties as required. The ideal candidate will have strong culinary expertise, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to student success and workforce preparedness.

Essential Functions:

Support the academic team in delivering high-quality instruction that prepares students for careers in the hospitality industry
Deliver hands-on culinary instruction using varied methods aligned with established curriculum
Provide instructional coverage as needed
Support instructors and staff at onsite and offsite events; occasional evenings and weekends required
Teach culinary-themed Continuing Education (CE) courses, when requested; occasional evenings required
Assist with academic and administrative functions supporting instructional programs and departmental operations
Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor, consistent with the role

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a commercial kitchen are required. Experience working with diverse learners is preferred. Basic computer skills and a knowledge of technologies used in the kitchen is required.

Experience and Education Substitutions:

An equivalent combination of formal education and appropriate related experience may be considered.

Licensing and Certification:

Current SNHD Food Handler Safety Training Card (required)
ServSafe Food Manager Certification (preferred)

Note: Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be obtained from an accredited educational institution.
