Engineering Assistant

Centro, Inc. is seeking a detail‑oriented and driven Project Engineer Assistant to support our Project Engineering team in developing new products, supporting prototypes, reviewing designs, and assisting with production launches. In this role, you’ll work closely with Project Engineers and the Project Engineering Leader to ensure timely, high‑quality engineering support throughout a product’s entire lifecycle.

This position directly contributes to Centro’s ability to deliver exceptional quality to our customers by influencing both design and manufacturing processes.

Location: North Liberty, IA
Hours: Full-Time, non-exempt | 1st shift


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete Engineering Evaluation Requests (EERs) to meet prearranged deadlines; communicate potential delays proactively.
  • Assist in evaluating project feasibility related to materials, processes, and plant capabilities.
  • Support the proposal process in accordance with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) requirements for Gate One submissions.
  • Perform a variety of project engineering functions supporting new product development.
  • Ensure drawings for simple parts or assemblies include required proprietary warnings.
  • Utilize required QSP competencies to support project engineering activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in applied science or engineering (or equivalent experience) preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to apply scientific, mathematical, and physics principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic skills in CREO, SolidWorks or another 3D CAD software (import/export models, dimension inquiries, fixture component design).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Comfortable using computer systems, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
  • Ability to analyze facts, evaluate unique situations, and recommend appropriate action.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory capability sufficient for detailed engineering tasks.
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate engineering information.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Primarily office‑based with periodic exposure to manufacturing environments (temperatures 55–100°F).
  • Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM.
  • Some travel to Centro facilities, customer sites, vendors, and conferences (including occasional overnight stays).
