Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Group Home (Iowa)

Location: Group Home / Community-Based Setting
Schedule: Varies (days, evenings, weekends, overnights)
Status: Non-Exempt


Job Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides daily care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a group home setting. The DSP promotes independence, community involvement, and a safe, respectful living environment in accordance with Iowa HCBS/SCL standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with activities of daily living (personal care, meals, housekeeping)
  • Administer medications after required training
  • Support individual goals and skill development
  • Provide supervision and ensure health and safety
  • Transport individuals to appointments and community activities
  • Complete daily documentation and incident reports
  • Follow agency policies and Iowa HHS/HCBS regulations

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years old
  • Valid Iowa driver’s license
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Ability to complete required trainings (CPR, First Aid, Med Admin)

Preferred

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Medication Manager Certification
