The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a junior-level software engineer to assist in the development of a sensor fusion application as part of a small team. This application collects data from a wide variety of hardware sources and presents it to data analysts and operators in meaningful ways. You’ll work on a variety of tasks, including:
- Developing control software to interface with scientific instruments
- Developing user interface components to present key scientific data
- Interacting with key stakeholders to develop and verify software requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field
- Strong programming fundamentals and proficiency in at least one modern programming language
- Familiarity with software design, testing, debugging, version control, and collaborative development practices
- Ability and interest in learning unfamiliar languages, frameworks, and technical domains
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; no current clearance is required
- Ability to work on-site and access laboratory equipment as required.
- Ability to complete required safety training and follow applicable safety procedures.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal business hours, typically fewer than 10 hours per year.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Go
- TypeScript / Vue
- Python (NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, and other scientific libraries)
- C / C++
- Docker
- Familiarity with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL
- Experience with digital communication protocols (TCP/UDP, serial, Modbus, etc.)
- Experience with user interface / user experience design
- Experience with data analysis / data visualization techniques
- Experience or interest in developing algorithms for large datasets (100 GB - 10 TB)
- Experience or interest in real-time software development (robotics, avionics, industrial safety, etc.)
- $70,000 - $105,000
- Salary commensurate on education and relevant experience
