Summary:             The Quality Engineering (QE) Technician is a vital member of the Quality Engineering team and will have extensive knowledge of the Quality Engineering practices of the documenting, inspecting and testing of manufacturing processes. The QE Technician position is a key adjunct to, and consultant for, the CFT Quality Engineers including but not limited to: blueprint assessment, GD&T assessment, time studies, quality plan development and process qualification execution. The QE Technician will participate in engineering problem solving, CMM inspection program troubleshooting, root cause investigations of product and process issues, customer complaints and documenting the findings of same.

 

Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review of customer drawings in conjunction with CFT Development Engineers and Quality Engineers to assure all CTQ dimensions, tolerances and notes are identified, and tooling designs are appropriate to customer requirements
  • Assisting the CFT QE staff with the creation, editing, and execution of manufacturing, inspection and test methods and instructions
  • Assisting CFT QE staff with documentation of quality inspection plans and Quality Annotated Drawings
  • Create forms and CoC documents in support of CFT process development and validation
  • As a GD&T and Blueprint reading expert, teach and train associates on how to read and interpret blueprints
  • Assisting CFT QEs with protocol execution, process time studies, process risk assessment, control plan development and process improvement identification and implementation
  • Acting as an Adjunct QE in the absence of an available CFT QE at the direction of the Quality Engineering Advisor
  • Create practical exams and train production associates on build instructions
  • Identify and implement quality sampling methods and equipment to reduce cost and improve productivity
  • Utilizes safe working practices including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as required

Accountabilities:


  • Accountable for assisting QEs meeting CFT project deadlines
  • Assessing customer drawings and prints to determine CTQ dimensions, and identify conflicts between the drawing and the CAD file model
  • Be able to enforce process controls with production associates
  • Accountable for process improvements to current and new production runs with supporting documentation

Qualifications


Training/Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma
  • Two-year technical degree required*
  • 15 plus years of related experience in a manufacturing environment required; medical device industry experience a plus
  • Formal training or experience with Lean manufacturing principles a plus
  • Proficient using Microsoft office, specifically need to be an expert in Excel
  • Minitab or similar statistical package experience preferred
  • CAD package experience required
  • CMM programming experience required
  • GD&T expertise required
  • Experience in a fast-paced custom development/manufacturing environment

Competencies/Talents/Personal Attributes:


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints with expertise in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and able to relay blueprint assement results to the Quality Engineering group
  • Ability to understand material characteristics, tooling specifications, manufacturing equipment, and how materials, tooling, and process settings interact to affect the overall tolerance capability of various product designs
  • Able to use CAD software and train others in the use of CAD software
  • Able to use data analysis software and train others in its use
  • Proven ability to assess quality challenges with CMM programming, and manufacturing processes and advise Quality Engineering on how to describe, and address these challenges internally and externally
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to determine appropriate tools to be used i.e. fixtures, templates, coordinate measuring machine, and go-no go gauges, etc.
