Job Description:

The Registered Radiation Therapist is responsible, through consultation, assessment, education, planning, intervention and evaluation, for the quality of care of adolescent, adult and elderly patients in the Radiation Oncology Department. The registered radiation therapist assumes responsibility and accountability for actions, which include, but are not limited to: Minimum Qualifications
o Education
o Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology accredited school of Radiation Therapy required.
o Credentials
o State Required: Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology;
o One or more years of experience as a Radiation Oncology Therapist preferred.
Physical Demands
1. Stand and/or walk frequently.
2. Sit frequently.
3. Lift up to 50# occasionally.
4. Carry up to 10# occasionally.
5. Push and/or pull 25# occasionally.
6. Use 2-3 step stool occasionally.
7. Bend and stoop frequently.
8. Reach floor to overhead frequently.
9. Demonstrate vision, color vision, and fine motor coordination within normal limits for age and gender.
10. Frequent computer use.

Essential Functions
1. Collects pertinent data about the patient and the procedure.
2. Analyzes the information obtained during the assessment phase and develops an action plan for completing the ordered procedure.
3. Provides information about the procedure to the patient, significant others and health care providers.
4. Implements an action plan that falls within established guidelines/procedures.
5. Determines whether the goals of the action plan have been achieved and revises the action plan if they have not been achieved.
6. Documents information about patient care, the procedure, and the final outcome.
7. Collaborates with other health professionals in the management of health care.
8. Reviews and revises care as necessary in collaboration with the heath care team. Completes patient charting on a daily basis.
9. Administers treatment as prescribed, monitors patient's condition, and reports findings to physician and other cancer care team members.
10. Assesses and manages radiation induced side effects as needed.
11. Calculates patient treatment dosage. Transfers dosage data off computer or hand generated calculation sheets onto patient record and verifies proper SSD's/SAD's; record to plan verify.
12. Prepares and positions patient for treatment, takes port films, and makes appropriate treatment changes as indicated.
13. Documents appropriately all simulations, treatments, calculations, treatment aids, and port films ordered by the physician in the patient's permanent record; Documents ongoing assessment and reassessment as biopsychosocial change occurs; Systematic, ongoing evaluations, documentation, and response to interventions are made on medical records.
14. Demonstrates proper use of software applications to carry out duties; Assists Completes machine warm up procedures, checking machine parameters and output of the linear accelerator and simulator; Fabricates individualized immobilization, custom blocks and other beam modifying devices; Performs technical skills to trouble-shoot equipment.
