Job Description:

Job Summary:

  • Ensures that instruments and supplies are readily available for processing through purchasing and by coordinating with the vendor and Sterile Processing Manager for loaners and trials.
  • Oversees instrument repairs, instrument transfers between the organization/s multiple departments and instrument tracking system.
  • Coordinating education in Central Service department.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years’ experience in Sterile Processing

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician or other sterile processing certification required.
  • Certification as a Surgical Instrument Specialist required within one year.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates the repair of instruments with appropriate vendor and maintains a log for tracking items set off site.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of instrument sets by assessing surgical case schedule and deducing which instruments can be removed from circulation.
  • Coordinates the procurement of and return of loaner, vendor and/or trial instrument sets.
  • Orders new and replacement supplies and instruments based on inventory, par levels at the direction of the Central Sterile Manager.
  • Assists with resolving product and/or instrument recalls as quickly as possible to promote patient care.
  • Maintains the department’s instrument tracking system by entering new instruments into system and building count sheets.
  • Collaborate with Sterile Processing team to ensure sets are available and complete.
  • Use excellent communication skills when discussing instrument availability with Central Sterile Manager, OR Manager or OR leads, Central Sterile employees and ancillary departments.
  • Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to the Central Sterile team.
  • Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as needed.
  • Assists with Central Sterile staffing as needed. 
  • Assesses, plans and implements education and training of Central Sterile staff.
  • Responsible for in-servicing staff on new products, instruments and equipment.
