Job Summary: 

The Metal Welder & Fabricator will specialize in welding and fabricating metal components on marine vessels including Barton & Gray’s fleet of 80+ Hinckley yachts. The Welder and Fabricator will play a large role in creating quotes and estimates for outside projects for Barton & Gray. This person will also be responsible for maintaining the machine shop’s inventory. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform layout, fabrication, fitting, and welding of metal components including but not limited to stainless steel.

  • Cut, tack, fit, and weld metals including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. 

  • Operate machinery such as grinders, drills, and TIG/MIG machines. 

  • Read blueprints and select proper materials for tasks. 

  • Estimate and create quotes for outside projects. 

  • Order and stock materials and supplies for the machine shop and all welding activities. 

  • Conduct leak checks and pressure tests after installations. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Marine and boat knowledge, experience with Hinckley boats strongly preferred. 

  • Experience with welding and fabrication in the marine industry. 

  • Experience with marine vessels and understanding yacht and ship terminology. 

  • Experience with material handling and inventory in a machine shop setting. 

  • Ability to operate various power and hand tools for cutting, welding, and assembling components. 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 

  • Demonstrated leadership ability. 

  • Experience working in a marine service yard where attention to detail and safety were preeminent.
