Job Summary
SummaryThe Cardiovascular Technician is responsible for performing all non-invasive testing in the Cardiology Department including, but not limited to, Electrocardiograms, Cardiac Stress Testing, Holter Monitoring, Electroencephalograms, along with various technical, clinical, and clerical duties such as recording and processing EKG tracings to obtain data for use in diagnosis of cardiac disorders.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Supervisor, Cardiology Services and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes
Essential Functions
Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual’s intellectual level and physical ability including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
-Review patient’s medical records, obtain patient information pertinent to procedure, explain procedure to patient, prepare patient for examination, and perform examination according to established department procedures.
-Apply electrodes to specified areas of patient’s body.
-Record wave tracings on an electrocardiograph for use in diagnoses of heart ailments.
-Perform EEG’s according to established policy and procedures.
-Prepare graph, scan, record, and document history for submission to appropriate physician for interpretation.
-Perform clerical duties, including filing, maintaining records, typing and answering telephone.
-Perform ongoing audits as required by supervisor/manager.
-Set up holter monitoring equipment and instruct patient regarding procedure.
-Scan holter report and report findings to physician.
-Assist physician with treadmill procedures.
-Set up patient, operate treadmill, and record tracing during cardiac stress testing procedures.
-Log procedures and submit changes to Billing Department.
-Verify insurance coverage.
-Book appointments according to departmental procedures.
-Assemble, process, and file departmental data and information.
-Prepare periodic reports and make distribution as required.
-Assist in all areas of the Cardiology Department and perform all duties as required or assigned.
-Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control and environmental standards.
-Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
-Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
-Attend meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- CPR training required.
- Completion of an EKG reading course preferred, otherwise required within 6 months of hire.
- Demonstrated expertise with typing, Dictaphone, and medical terminology preferred.
