Key Accountabilities

  • Perform Civil Construction duties related to the maintenance and construction of electrical substations.
  • Duties include carpentry work, masonry work, digging, installing and pouring concrete footings, digging and installing conduit and other civil maintenance and construction types of work assigned.
  • All other duties properly assignable to an employee of this classification.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read and write English legibly
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be physically able bodied and a safe careful worker
  • Have previous hands-on experience in heavy civil construction, bridge building, road building, earthwork, foundation installation (concrete form building, rebar tying) etc. per engineered drawings.
  • Completed or be in the process of completing a recognized four-year vocational school (or recognized apprenticeship) in mechanical, masonry, carpentry or similar.
  • Work under adverse weather conditions during emergencies.
  • Possess both civil construction and mechanical aptitude and ability to progress to 1st class utility worker as set forth by the department’s progression guidelines.

 

  • Possess and maintain an unrestricted valid driver’s license. Participate in and continually pass the DOT drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Obtain and retain any license or certificate required for this classification (CDL, 40HR Hazwopper, HOISTING, and Federal Crane License or certification.
  • Must be able to obtain a company hydraulic license and state license and be able to operate various equipment including construction forklift, man-lift, backhoe, mini excavator, and skid steer.
  • Be available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • May be required to handle substances considered hazardous under the U.S. Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Law or Massachusetts Right to Know Law.
  • Accept assignments anywhere within service territory.
  • Become familiar with company standards and work methods.

Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions,
including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous
Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies
regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes,
will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.

NOTE: Final awarding of the job(s) is contingent upon the applicant(s) successful completion of the FAT test.
