Join the Northbrook Park District team and inspire healthy living in our community as a dedicated Fitness Instructor! This position designs and instructs group fitness classes while providing guidance and support for each class participant, within established program guidelines. Class instruction may vary based on the level of participant experience and age. May instruct classes for children through older adults. Instructors should be available in early mornings and/or late afternoon/evenings to provide class instructor to members/guests.

 

Pay & Schedule:
$38.00 - $42.00 Per Unit

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, weekday evenings and weekends.

Anticipated start date: July 1st

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach group exercise classes for a specific fitness program; in-person or virtual.

  • Develop and implement class format and class schedule to support established program curriculum; ensure class format is engaging and evolving to meet the needs of class participants.

  • Follow, and ensure class participants follow, facility guidelines when in class and when working with equipment.

  • Arrive before class start time to set up; ensure training equipment is in good condition and notify Supervisor of any malfunctions, problems, or repairs needed with equipment or teaching space; cleanup/reset after class.

  • Track attendance records.

  • Encourage class participants to try other classes and engage in other TPAC program offerings.

  • Seek a substitute for class instruction if unable to instruct a session or receive assistance from Supervisor well in advance; act as a substitute instructor for other instructors when available.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by fielding member and guest suggestions, concerns and complaints in a positive and understanding manner; provides follow-up and resolution as required.

  • Assist with TPAC special events and marketing outreach opportunities.

  • Report any work-related or patron injuries or incidents to supervisor and/or Risk Management; report unsafe conditions to supervisor and correct if appropriate; complete incident/accident report forms as needed.

  • Perform all job tasks in a safe manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of applicable group fitness instruction experience is required.

 

Skills & Abilities

  • Group fitness certification through a nationally accredited organization as required for specific instruction being provided

  • Teach by demonstration throughout fitness class

  • Lead and interact positively with classroom participants – children and adults

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Work independently and efficiently

  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within one (1) month of hire

 

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of subject material being instructed
