Position Summary
P17 Solutions is seeking a Mid-Senior Level Radar/Surveillance Engineer to support advanced radar and surveillance technology programs, combining radar algorithm development and signal processing with radar system analysis and characterization - across the full lifecycle from algorithm design and simulation through field testing, deployment, and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Algorithm Development & Signal Processing
• Develop, evaluate, and improve radar signal processors and tracking algorithms for performance and latency
• Research emerging algorithms from current literature and assess applicability to program needs
• Support radar simulation/modeling (including EW environments), RF sensor field-testing, and sensor deployment
• Apply DSP techniques including matched filtering, Doppler processing, CFAR detection, and tracking
System Analysis & Characterization
• Analyze and characterize radar waveforms, PRF patterns, modulation schemes, and performance parameters
• Support analysis of radar emissions, ECCM, and LPI features
• Contribute to reconstruction of radar system architectures, timing diagrams, and operational modes
Documentation & Collaboration
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, and system specifications
• Peer review internal/industry algorithms and analyses
• Mentor junior engineers; may lead individual tasking
• Collaborate cross-functionally on radar program objectives
Required Qualifications
• BS in EE, CE, or related field (ABET-accredited)
o 5–9 yrs relevant experience; or
o MS + 3–7 yrs; or
o PhD + 1–3 yrs.
o Candidates without a degree but with strong demonstrated experience will also be considered.
• Demonstrated experience in radar algorithm development and/or signal analysis
• Working knowledge of radar architectures, waveforms, and operational modes
• Strong fundamentals in: DSP, tracker algorithms, MATLAB, radar simulation/modeling, FAA systems, radar waveforms (LFM, Barker/polyphase codes, LPI, etc.), radar modes (search/track/SAR/ISAR, etc.), EW concepts (RWR, ESM, ECM/ECCM), and Mark 99 Eliminator/DDCS systems
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
• Ability to work independently on ambiguous problems; growth potential into a technical lead role
• Must be a US Citizen able to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
• Statistics/probability background; SIGINT/EW familiarity
• Military or FAA-related radar systems background (RCS analysis, pulse-Doppler, SAR/ISAR, AESA/PESA)
• RF test equipment proficiency (spectrum analyzers, VSAs); Python, GNU Radio
• Experience with SPY-1, SPY-6, and/or SPY-7
• Additional skills: electromagnetics, modern C++, Linux
Work Environment
• Full-time, onsite at William J. Hughes Technical Center, Egg Harbor Township, NJ
o Must reside within 90-mile radius; no relocation assistance
• Travel may exceed 30%
Compensation & Benefits
Pay will be commensurate with experience, based on qualifications, certifications, location, clearance level, and contract requirements. Compensation ranges are provided in compliance with pay transparency laws for CA, CO, NY, and DC-based roles.
