Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):
The Physics Department is hiring a TEAM-UP Student Worker to serve on the department’s TEAM-UP executive committee in collaboration with the Faculty Lead. TEAM-UP (National Task Force to Elevate African American Representation in Undergraduate Physics and Astronomy) is a national initiative led by the American Institute of Physics (AIP) that focuses on advancing equity, inclusion, and representation in physics and astronomy.
In this role, students will help design and implement initiatives that foster a sense of belonging and support student success within the department. This includes contributing to programs such as workshops, discussions, and community-building events. Student workers will collaborate with faculty, staff, and peers to build on existing efforts and help strengthen the department climate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as an active member of the TEAM-UP executive committee

Collaborate with the Faculty Lead and peers to plan and implement initiatives

Assist in organizing and facilitating events such as workshops and discussions

Contribute ideas to improve student experience and sense of belonging within the department

Participate in regular meetings and planning sessions

Support communication and outreach efforts related to TEAM-UP programming

Help assess and reflect on the effectiveness of initiatives
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

Current student with an interest in physics, engineering, astronomy, or related fields

Interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
