Position Title: Recreation Facilities Supervisor.
Department: Recreation.
Classification: Non-Exempt.                             
FTE: 0.05.
Work Schedule: 10-months annually, Mid-August through mid-June with occasional summer shifts. Available Fridays 5-10pm, Saturdays 8a-2p or 2p-10p, Sundays 9a-3p.
Work Location: On Campus.
Hourly Rate: $20.25.
 

Position Overview:
The Recreation Facilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the campus recreation and athletic facilities during assigned shifts. This role provides direct supervision and leadership to Recreation Attendants, ensures a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons, and supports overall facility functionality during regular hours and special events. The Recreation Facilities Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for incident response and operational decision-making in the absence of full-time staff.
 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Supervise and support Recreation Attendants to ensure effective front-line operations.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and real-time feedback to staff during shifts.
  • Serve as the primary responder to incidents and emergencies, including coordinating care and completing incident reports.
  • Ensure all facility policies and procedures are enforced consistently and professionally.
  • Oversee facility operations, including opening, closing, and shift transitions.
  • Conduct routine facility walkthroughs to monitor safety, cleanliness, and equipment conditions.
  • Address patron concerns, conflicts, and escalated situations with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Support special events, programs, and reservations within the facility.
  • Communicate important updates and issues to professional staff in a timely manner.
  • Assist with staff training, onboarding, and ongoing development.
  • Ensure proper use, setup, and storage of recreation equipment.
     

Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • Reports to the Director of Recreation and Facility Coordinator
  • This position does not supervise anyone. 
     

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: 
    • High School Diploma (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
    • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
       
  • Experience: 
    • Previous experience working in recreation, athletics, or a related environment. (At least 2 years preferred).
    • Demonstrated leadership experience or ability to supervise staff effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
       

Prerequisites:

  • Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College.  Please note, St. Olaf College reserves the right to conduct periodic background checks at its sole discretion.
