EVS Utility Specialist

Position Summary:

The EVS Utility Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of heavy-duty environmental services (EVS) tasks, including high-area cleaning, carpet and hard-floor maintenance, and safe operation of powered cleaning and waste-handling equipment. This role collects, sorts, compacts, and transports casino waste and recyclables, maintains compactor and related equipment, follows established safety procedures, and provides professional customer service to guests and team members. Work is performed under general supervision using established guidelines and good judgment. The EVS Utilities Specialist follows daily work assignments from the EVS Supervisor, responds to radio calls and service requests, and assists in creating a welcoming environment for guests and team members. This position plays a key role in supporting overall facility operations and reports directly to the EVS Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for practicing, supporting, and promoting North Fork Mono Casino's culture and always demonstrating exemplary Service Standards.
• Perform high-area cleaning using ladders, rolling platforms, scissor lifts or aerial work platforms (dusting, wiping, debris removal).
• Clean, strip, buff and maintain carpets and hard-surface floors using powered equipment (ride-on/ walk-behind scrubbers, buffers, extractors, vacuums).
• Collect, sort, and transport waste and recyclables throughout the property in a safe and efficient manner.
• Operate waste-handling and heavy-duty equipment such as compactors, balers, roll-off containers, dumpsters, powered carts and haulage cart vehicles per training and policy.
• Load, compact and stage waste and recyclables for disposal or recycling; monitor compactor levels and schedule/remove loads as required.
• Perform daily and preventive maintenance on compactors, lifts and cleaning equipment; report defects and arrange repairs.
• Maintain compactor rooms, trash chutes and related facilities in a clean, safe and sanitary condition.
• Follow all safety and regulatory procedures (PPE, lockout/tagout, confined space awareness, proper lifting techniques).
• Respond promptly and courteously to guest and team member requests and incidents involving waste or hazardous spills; escalate when appropriate.
• Keep accurate logs and paperwork for equipment use, maintenance, and waste/recycling loads.
• Support other EVS and facilities teams as needed during events, deep-clean projects, or emergencies.
• Use high-pressure washers and approved cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer instructions.
• Replace needed supplies including liners, gloves, and needed chemicals.
• Respond promptly to service calls or requests for support from Supervisors or other departments.
• Respond immediately to Biohazard service calls when called upon.
• Report any unsafe conditions, spills, damage, or needed repairs.
• Complete daily work assignments safely, thoroughly and efficiently.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to follow directions, complete tasks thoroughly, and work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment (Golf carts, ride-on/ walk-behind scrubbers, buffers, ride-on/ walk-behind extractors, and lifts).
• Familiarity with standard heavy lifting procedures, equipment, and safe chemical handling.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe environment.
• Clear and courteous communication skills when interacting with guests and team members.
• Ability to remain flexible and responsive to changing priorities or emergency requests.
• Willingness to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior experience in custodial, housekeeping, or environmental services and six (6) months experience with heavy equipment (i.e. ride on ride-on/ walk-behind scrubbers, buffers, ride-on/ walk-behind extractors, and lifts) preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Gaming License from the Tribal Gaming Commission, including passing a background investigation.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and be insurable.

Physical Requirements:

• All work is performed on site in Madera, CA.
• Must be able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, reach, and kneel.
• Regularly lift/move up to 70 pounds; push/pull up to 500 pounds.
• Requires manual dexterity and physical ability to operate heavy equipment and perform job-related tasks.
• Must be able to work on feet for extended periods and perform repetitive physical movements.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, second-hand smoke, and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures is expected.

Work Conditions:

Work is primarily performed indoors throughout the casino property, including public areas, restrooms, offices, and back-of-house zones. Conditions may include exposure to cleaning chemicals, second-hand smoke, noise, and varying temperatures. The role involves constant walking, standing, and performing repetitive tasks. Occasional access to storage areas, loading docks, or mechanical spaces may be required. Frequent interaction with guests, team members, and other departments is expected.
