Fleet Mechanic I or Fleet Mechanic II – DOQ
Starting Pay:
• Mechanic I: $27.28/hour
• Mechanic II: $30.07/hour

The City of O'Fallon is seeking a skilled, dependable, and team‑oriented Fleet Mechanic I or Fleet Mechanic II to support our Fleet Maintenance Division. This position is essential in keeping City vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready to serve our community.

Major Duties

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair City vehicles, equipment, and mechanical systems.
  • Perform police vehicle build‑outs including installation of specialized lighting, wiring, and equipment.
  • Fabricate parts, complete welding repairs, and perform needed modifications.
  • Track and process invoices for assigned vehicles and repair jobs.
  • Maintain and repair snow equipment.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a safe, clean work area.
  • Transport vehicles to and from contracted repair facilities.
  • Maintain parts inventory and source parts from vendors.
  • Complete required documentation and records.
  • Assist with snow removal operations.
  • Respond to emergency call‑ins and callback work when needed.

Mechanic II Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Quality Control Mechanic.
  • Learn, assist, and lead efforts involving advanced vehicle diagnostic systems.
  • Perform shop control duties in the Fleet Coordinator's absence.

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Knowledge of City and departmental policies, including safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair practices.
  • Knowledge of mechanical diagnostic procedures.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and brake systems.
  • Skill in repairing and maintaining various vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Skill with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Minimum Qualifications

Mechanic I:

  • Specialized training in vehicle or equipment maintenance and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One to two years of related experience, typically through an apprenticeship, internship, or similar role.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Missouri driver's license appropriate for equipment operated.

Mechanic II (must meet one of the following):

  • An associate degree in vehicle/equipment maintenance and two ASE certifications from Series A, E, F‑1, G‑1, or L, with maintained competency; or
  • Five ASE certifications from Series A, E, F‑1, G‑1, or L, with maintained competency.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Missouri driver's license appropriate for equipment operated.
