Rolling Mill Operator

The Rolling Mill Operator sets up and operates rolling mills and related equipment to produce metal products to close tolerances. This role performs in-process inspections using precision measurement tools, completes routine maintenance, and works closely with teammates to support safe, high-quality production.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is safety-minded, comfortable working with close tolerances, and able to use precision measurement tools and basic shop math to meet quality requirements.


Essential Functions

Set up and operate rolling mills and metal-forming equipment to produce material to specification and close tolerances. Use precision measurement tools to perform in-process inspections, verify incoming material against requirements, and document results as needed. Collaborate with teammates and, when applicable, customers to support continuous improvement and process development.

  • Set up and operate the rolling mill, including roll changes.
  • Operate shears and salt-bath equipment.
  • Change rolls and components in the mill housing as needed.
  • Work to close tolerances and verify dimensions throughout the process.
  • Use shop math and measurement tools (gauges, meters, and samples) to monitor and control the process.
  • Complete setups, routine maintenance, and other equipment-related tasks.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Work under routine/direct supervision.



Competencies

  • Apply basic shop math to support setups and inspections.
  • Results-driven with attention to detail.



Minimum Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic shop math skills.
  • Ability to use handheld measurement instruments and tools.
  • Ability to read and follow RWP and JHA work requirements.



Preferred Education & Experience

  • RAD certified (preferred).
  • Forklift certified (preferred).
  • Two (2) years of related manufacturing or machine-operation experience.
