Registered Nurse, Shift Manager, Orthopedic Med Surg

Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Variable Shifts

Position Summary:

Assists in providing 24-hour management of the unit(s) or department assigned. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures, all regulatory agencies, and/or accepted standards of practice and hospital contracts.
  • Facilitates patient admissions and discharges in conjunction with admitting office.
  • Serves as clinical resource for nursing staff.
  • Supervises patient care process.
  • May provide direct patient care until appropriate staff is available.
  • Assists with scheduling appropriate resources to provide quality patient care and/or customer satisfaction on a daily basis.
  • Monitors quality improvement activities in department, makes suggestions for QT teams, recruits staff, and provides support for the teams.
  • Establishes and maintains professional attitude toward customers through leadership and personal example. Maintains customer service standards for department; and participates in resolution of customer dissatisfaction issues.
  • Assists with the preparation and review of the budget for the assigned unit or department.
  • Investigates, develops, and evaluates current trends in departmental methods.
  • Serves as liaison between staff and administration.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution using appropriate techniques in an effective and professional manner.
  • Evaluates personnel and encourages and assists in their development.
  • Directs the orientation of new staff and assists with staff educational activities.
  • Maintains positive intra-departmental and inter-departmental relations.
  • Serves on hospital committees as necessary for the benefit of the organization.
  • Remains mentally alert and maintains concentration with attention to detail for prolonged periods, at times under stress. Maintains adaptability, flexibility, initiative, persistence, and efficiency of time management and action.
  • Does not pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others. Provides safe, efficient, competent care to population assigned. Meets MMC Environment of Care Standards.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:         

A minimum of two-three (2-3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse is required. Experience with charge nurse/team lead role on med surg units preferred. 

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Required RN licensure and/or certification must be current. CPR required.
