Department Details:

Legal Practice Strategy and Enablement function is the operational backbone of the Legal Department. We design and scale the systems, data, and processes that turn legal strategy into reliable, measurable delivery—enabling high‑quality, cost‑effective legal service for the enterprise.

What LPSE does—at a glance
Strategy, Performance & Measurement: Translate departmental priorities into execution; steward budget transparency; build executive reporting, KPIs, and scorecards across practice groups. 
Strategic Sourcing & Matter Management: Set standards for engaging legal service providers, run provider evaluations and business reviews, negotiate rates, and manage matter lifecycle with clear policies and guidelines. 
Process & Data Excellence: Simplify, document, and standardize workflows and SOPs; raise data quality and knowledge‑sharing so attorneys and staff can work faster and smarter. 
Technology & Enablement: Plan, select, implement, and optimize platforms; drive adoption with training and job aids to ensure durable operational change.

Internship Projects:

Provider performance & spend discipline — support panel provider evaluation and quarterly business reviews that improve quality, responsiveness, and cost control. 
Process clarity & adoption — ship clean SOPs/job aids and champion data hygiene that make matter management and billing friction‑free. 
Operational reporting that leaders trust — contribute to dashboards and scorecards that give senior leaders timely, accurate insights. 
Technology enablement — help configure and roll out legal systems (e.g., TeamConnect - Legal Matter Management System, iManage - Legal's Document Management System, Financial management including invoices accruals, etc.), unlocking repeatable, scalable workflows. 

 

Target Majors:

Public Health; Healthcare Administration; Business Administration; Paralegal and other Legal Studies

 

Target Skillset:

Vendor / Outside Counsel Management

Interest in panel/provider evaluation, including criteria definition, scorecards, and business‑review cadence; ability to pull metrics that reflect quality, responsiveness, and guideline compliance. 
Familiarity with benchmarks for onboarding, performance measurement, and relationship management across law firms/vendors.

Aptitude for process mapping and **SOP authoring (clear steps, controls, and roles); organized approach to timelines, dependencies, and cross‑functional handoffs. 
Exposure to continuous‑improvement methods (Lean/Six Sigma concepts are a plus).

Ability to define or support legal‑ops KPIs (cycle time, matter throughput, guideline adherence, rate trends, etc.), and translate findings into recommendations for leaders.
Operational & Financial Acumen

Basic understanding of budgeting/FP\&A, legal spend drivers, and cost controls; ability to analyze rate proposals and invoice patterns to surface savings and quality insights.
Comfort using spreadsheets to reconcile spend, track variances, and support executive reporting.

Productivity & BI: Excel, Power BI/Tableau for metrics and visualization. 
Legal Tech: Matter management, e‑billing, CLM, and document/knowledge systems (specific platforms vary by department).

  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.
