Registered Nurse - Pediatric OR (BCH Oakland)

The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (OR) consists of 11 surgical suites and 1 procedural. Our primary focus is multidisciplinary team-based approach and staffing. 

Services include, but are not limited to: Neurology, Ortho/Spine, Otolaryngology, Urology, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Dental, Cardiac, General Surgery, GI, Hem/Onc.

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.
• Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.
• Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams.
• Carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required.
• Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision.
• Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Under minimal supervision, function primarily as a circulating nurse within the Operating Room.
• Completion of AORN Periop 101 with 2 years of experience or 5 years of experience in the Operating Room of a level 3 or 4 Acute Care Facility
• Current experience in the Operating Room of an acute care setting 
• Proficiency, ability to independently circulate, in at least 3 of the following services: General Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics/Spine, Otolaryngology/Airway, GU, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Cardiac.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.  Must be well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and work independently and under pressure.
• Basic computer keyboard skills and general PC knowledge.

• Required On-Call commitment
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications:

• General Surgery, Ortho/Spine, Neuro, Cardiac experience desired
• CNOR
• BSN Preferred
• Proficient in Scrubbing role in at least 2 of services listed above
• Experience in Level 1 Trauma hospital
• Charge Nurse experience

Licenses/Certifications:

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. 

• Active American Heart Association CPR certification

• Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
