Benefits Systems Support Specialist

Hybrid Benefits Operations + Workday Support

The Benefits Systems Support Specialist plays an important role in ensuring our employee benefits programs run smoothly and accurately. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in benefits administration who are confident working in Workday and supporting technical processes, but who are not seeking a full HRIS or configuration‑focused role.

In this role, you will support daily benefits operations, maintain accurate data in Workday, coordinate with vendors, and assist with issue resolution, reporting, and annual Open Enrollment activities. You will work closely with both the Benefits and HRIS teams to deliver a consistent and reliable employee experience.

Responsibilities

Benefits Program Support

  • Maintain accurate benefits information in Workday, including plan updates, eligibility rules, and employee records.
  • Support daily benefits operations by troubleshooting enrollment issues, life events, terminations, and related transactions.
  • Conduct routine audits to keep benefits data accurate and aligned with vendor records.
  • Respond to system-related questions from HR partners, managers, and employees.

Technical & Vendor Coordination

  • Support data flow between Workday and more than 25 external benefits vendors, ensuring timely and accurate file transmissions.
  • Review and resolve integration or file feed issues that impact eligibility or enrollment.
  • Assist with testing Workday updates, enhancements, and benefits-related system changes.
  • Work with HRIS on escalated technical items that require additional analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain benefits reporting for audits, compliance needs, vendor requests, and internal analysis.
  • Maintain process documentation and reference materials to support consistent team practices.

Open Enrollment Support

  • Lead the technical setup and testing of annual Open Enrollment for a large employee population.
  • Coordinate with vendors, HRIS, and Payroll to ensure accurate plan details and system readiness.
  • Oversee system updates, validation, and testing activities related to Open Enrollment.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in benefits administration, benefits operations, or a similar role.
  • Experience working with an HCM system such as Workday, SAP, Oracle, or ADP (Workday strongly preferred).
  • Solid understanding of benefits programs, including health plans, retirement plans such as 401(k), eligibility rules, and regulatory requirements.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and dedication to data accuracy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and identify root causes.
  • Comfortable working with reports, audits, and Excel.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external vendors.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance recurring and project-based work.
  • Ability to travel up to 10 percent.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as Workday, SHRM-CP, PHR, or CEBS are helpful but not required.
