What You'll Do

  • Deliver therapy under the PT's direction and physician's plan of care
  • Treat patients to relieve pain, restore function, and maintain performance
  • Guide patients through exercises, muscle reeducation, gait and transfer training, and prosthetic training
  • Apply heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, and massage as ordered
  • Report patient response and changes in condition to the PT
  • Teach patients to use wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices
  • Document care accurately and on time
  • Participate in Home Care Team meetings and inservice education
  • Take on other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  1. Graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program with an Associate's degree in science or applied science approved by the American Physical Therapy Association, Inc.
  2. Current certification or license as required by state law.
  3. Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
  4. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order.

Physical Demands

This role requires the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Prolonged walking and standing
  • Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Lifting, positioning, and transferring patients (with assistance for patients over 50 lbs, per agency safe-handling policy)
  • Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
  • Visual acuity and hearing sufficient to perform required duties

Health Requirements

Required before providing patient care:

  • Pre-employment physical screening, or a letter from a recent healthcare encounter confirming the candidate is free of communicable disease
  • Documented negative TB test (TST or TB blood test) taken within the past 12 months
  • TB risk assessment and symptom evaluation upon hire
