Job DetailsJob Location: Heart of Florida Health Center CENTRAL - Ocala, FL 34471 Job Summary The phlebotomist is responsible for the delivery of quality care to patients within the scope of practice defined by Heart of Florida Health Center, Inc. Qualifications and Requirements High School diploma or equivalent Current BLS Certificate from an accredited AHA or American Red Cross provider Phlebotomy Certification required Spanish fluency is preferred, but not essential. Ability to effectively communicate and establish collaborative relationships with physicians, patients, clinic and administrative staff, and the public. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, and other sensitive materials and information. One (1) year of medical office, clinic, or hospital experience is preferred. The Phlebotomist works in a medical clinic environment, which is generally indoors in a climate-controlled environment. The working environment may change somewhat between locations. Phlebotomists will be assigned to a home location, however, location assignments will change from time to time and the Phlebotomist must be able to assist at any location, as assigned, either temporarily or on a long-term basis. Essential Functions Understands that our patients are our priority and maintains a respectful, pleasant, and polite demeanor at all times. Greets patients and visitors in a friendly, professional manner. Ability to successfully draw blood from patients with minimal to no complications. Prepares pre-visit planning by reviewing upcoming scheduled patients for lab orders and ensures all needed supplies are available. Verifies patient information and labels blood samples properly. Determines the right venipuncture method to be used based on patient age, health etc. Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples. Complete all tasks as outlined in EMR. Prepares lab area prior to and subsequent to each patient visit and maintains lab supplies. Interviews the patient prior to the lab procedure and reports any unusual findings to the provider. Performs and records venipuncture or finger stick appropriately in the electronic medical record. Performs CLIA-waived tests (to include hemoglobin and hemoglobin A1C) in the office as needed. Documents all required notes, completely and timely. Performs phlebotomy/lab tests according to lab policy and procedure. Enters lab requests into the computer and ensures that results are received in a timely manner. Maintains quality and aseptic techniques using standard policies and procedures. Performs quality control tests per established protocol. Follows OSHA and infection control policies and procedures. Documents testing is done in the office in EMR for proper billing. Enters laboratory requisitions accurately. Maintain a log of waived tests. Documents disclosures of protected health information. Participates in care team huddles daily for efficient communication among the teams. Maps unreconciled lab results through Document Import to appropriate orders for provider review as needed. Checks and responds to messages through the patient portal daily. Performs routine housekeeping chores including daily cleaning of countertops, scales, and furniture in exam rooms. Utilizes resources in a cost-effective manner. Demonstrates priority setting and organizational skills. Exhibits punctuality and dependability in attendance and work habits. Notifies the provider of issues arising during venipuncture visits (i.e., unable to perform for any reason) by sending an action to the provider through the electronic medical record. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights (HIPAA). Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, and other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic, or verbal form, which could jeopardize the privacy of patients and/or employees. Accesses and utilizes the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes. Physical Requirements Frequent sitting at a desk for office work. Occasional driving of automobiles for outside appointments and meetings. Continuous use of corrected vision, depth perception, wide field of vision, and color. Also, the job will demand continuous use of olfactory, auditory, and tactile senses. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. Duties require attention to detail, alertness, problem-solving, tolerance to stress, and exercising sound judgment This employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 30 pounds Qualifications
