Overview
We are looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Cook to join our Food Services team. In this role, you will support the preparation, organization, and delivery of meals in accordance with established dietary plans and food safety protocols. Your work helps create a comfortable and consistent dining experience that directly supports the health and well-being of our students and team members. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys kitchen work, values consistency and cleanliness, and wants to be part of a mission-driven team.
As a School Cook you will:
- Prepares nutritional meals according to menus. Prepares special meals as needed for picnics, Special Olympics, birthdays, holidays, parties, off-grounds activities, and executive lunches. This may involve food preparation, cooking, and baking.
- Responsible for checking menus daily and for looking ahead for future necessities such as taking out frozen foods for the next day.
- In absence of the Food Service Supervisor, provides supervision of the Kitchen Assistants in their duties and assists when necessary.
- Serves meals according to dietary needs.
- Maintains cleanliness of the kitchen area and equipment according to the State Board of Health standards.
- Stores food at proper temperatures; disposes of all kitchen garbage/refuse.
- Assists in annual inventory and monitors care and use of Agency supplies and materials.
Qualifications
- A minimum of one year experience in food preparation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated skill in cooking a variety of foods in large quantities, in a commercial setting/school preferred.
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position, including occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds unassisted and up to 80 pounds with assistance, bending, twisting, reaching, ability to remain in a serving line or washing dishes for a period of up to 2 hours, sitting periods of up to one hour.
- Able to use good judgment, make quick decisions, and use strong problem-solving skills. Able to communicate well with co-workers and students.
- Ability to maintain self-composure and self-control.
- Able to recognize students who are required to adhere to special dietary requirements.
- Must be able to read and understand recipes.
- Effective working alone and as a member of a team.
Schedule
- This is a full-time, 40 hour/week position that requires availability to work 1st Shift hours (staying as late as 6pm) as well as alternating weekends, and a holiday rotation.

Pay Rate: $19.75/hour
