Media Specialist I (2026-25897):

 

Bowhead is seeking a DSA Media Specialist to join our team in Dahlgren, VA. The DSA Media Library Specialist provides technical media library, documentation management, and logistics support for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) V- Department. This position is responsible for the receipt, accountability, processing, storage, shipment, inventory, and lifecycle management of classified and unclassified computer media, technical documentation, and configuration-controlled materials. The Media Specialist ensures compliance with Department of War (DoW), Department of the Navy (DON), and command security policies while maintaining accurate records and delivering exceptional customer support.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Media Library Operations

  • Receive, process, catalog, and distribute classified and unclassified computer media and technical documentation.
  • Maintain centralized media library operations and provide customer service support.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of Master and Library media using barcode tracking systems and approved databases.
  • Process requests for controlled computer media and technical documentation.
  • Verify user authorization and security clearance prior to releasing classified materials.
  • Perform media duplication, verification, labeling, packaging, and comparison activities.
  • Sanitize, degauss, archive, inspect, test, format, and destroy media in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Maintain inventory records for blank media and library supplies.
  • Prepare documentation supporting media accountability and configuration management.
  • Assist with digitization and scanning projects to convert paper records into electronic formats.

Delivery and Staging Area (DSA) Operations

  • Receive and process incoming computer programs, media, and transmittal requests.
  • Prepare configuration-controlled media for shipment, including packaging, labeling, and marking.
  • Generate shipping documentation for classified and unclassified deliveries.
  • Track incoming and outgoing shipments using approved databases.
  • Process classified materials including Confidential, Secret, Top Secret, NATO, Restricted Data, and Proprietary information in accordance with security requirements.
  • Collect daily shipment metrics and assist with monthly reporting.
  • Maintain adequate inventories of shipping and packing materials.
  • Coordinate receipt, staging, and distribution of materials throughout supported facilities.

Documentation and Process Improvement

  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating:
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • User Guides
    • Contingency Plans
    • Brochures
    • Training materials
  • Participate in SOP reviews and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support meetings, demonstrations, and customer training activities.

Records and Accountability

  • Maintain complete accountability of classified and controlled media.
  • Ensure all circulation, distribution, and inventory records remain current and accurate.
  • Report discrepancies or security concerns to Government representatives.
  • Support internal inventories and Government audits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree desired but not required.

• Requires at least one (1) year of experience in records management, logistics, library operations, document management, or media accountability.

• Experience working with inventory databases, barcode systems, or document management software.• Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Physical Demands:• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
