At Winward Electric in Ogden, Utah, we believe the best projects are built long before the first conduit is installed. Our Planning Layout Designers bridge the gap between design, virtual construction, prefabrication, and field operations to create smarter, more efficient electrical installations.
You'll work alongside VDC, Prefabrication, Project Managers, and Field Leadership to develop buildable installation plans, improve constructability, and help eliminate costly field conflicts before construction begins.
Pay: $105,000- $115,000 annually
Schedule: Full-time | Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM | On-site

What You'll Be Doing
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, and BIM models to develop efficient construction plans.
- Create installation strategies that improve productivity, safety, and field execution.
- Participate in constructability reviews to identify design conflicts and installation challenges before construction begins.
- Collaborate with VDC teams to coordinate models and improve system routing and installation sequencing.
- Work closely with Prefabrication to identify assemblies and components that can be built off-site.
- Develop prefab drawings, installation details, and assembly documentation.
- Coordinate between design, modeling, prefabrication, and field teams to ensure projects are ready before installation begins.
- Provide layout information, technical support, and installation guidance to field crews.
- Participate in project planning meetings with VDC, Prefabrication, Project Management, and Field Leadership.
- Help troubleshoot design and coordination issues during construction.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, standards, and construction technology across projects.

What You Bring
- 10+ years of experience in electrical construction, VDC/BIM, layout, design coordination, or a combination of education and related experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, installation practices, and construction sequencing.
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Familiarity with prefabrication processes is preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with BIM/VDC software such as Revizto, Navisworks, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both office and field teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
