Position Summary

The Commercial Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the repair, maintenance, inspection, and servicing of all commercial and company vehicles. This position requires knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern vehicle and equipment maintenance to diagnose, repair, and replace damaged or malfunctioning parts and mechanical systems.

Qualifications

Position Summary

The Commercial Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of all commercial and company vehicles. This position ensures that all equipment is maintained in safe operating condition and remains compliant with applicable federal, state, and company safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on commercial trucks, trailers, and company vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drivetrains, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, and air brake systems.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure vehicles meet DOT and company safety requirements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and perform repairs independently.
  • Utilize tools and equipment including air impact wrenches, hydraulic presses, torches, welders, grinders, metal band saws, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate a forklift or become certified upon completion of company-provided training.
  • Respond to emergency repairs and work overtime or on-call hours as needed.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Provide and maintain basic mechanic tools required to perform job duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Work in warm, dusty environments for extended periods.
  • Work in cold, wet, or humid conditions for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder movements while repairing vehicles.
  • Frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Lift, carry, and maneuver parts, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance when necessary.
  • Possess sufficient coordination, flexibility, balance, and upper body strength to safely handle components weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Climb into engine compartments, truck cabs, storage bins, and other confined work areas.
  • Push and pull heavy equipment, parts, and tools.
  • Tolerate exposure to moving machinery, dust, dirt, grease, solvents, oil, and other products commonly associated with vehicle maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of diesel and automotive mechanics.
  • Strong understanding of diesel and gasoline engines, manual and automatic transmissions, rear ends, drive lines, clutches, brake systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, hydraulics, and air brakes.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety of commercial vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to work overtime and be on call as needed.
  • Basic mechanic tools required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A.
  • Previous forklift operating experience.
  • Experience in fleet maintenance and repair of heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
