Job Description

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board is a state agency responsible for overseeing the complex mission of managing, monitoring, planning for, and financing the state's water resources and infrastructure towards reliable future supplies that support strong communities, commerce, and the environment. The agency is seeking a Groundwater Monitoring Technician (Intern) temporary / seasonal employee to join our family of professionals in delivering exceptional services and expertise to Oklahomans.

Position: Groundwater Monitoring Technician (Summer Intern)

Division: W.A.T.E.R.

Section: Groundwater Monitoring

Location of Work: 3800 N. Classen Blvd, OKC OK 73118

Travel: Extensive weekly overnight travel is required.

Description of Work Duties

The position requires field work and overnight travel throughout the state. A typical work week will start at the OWRB office Monday morning; load all applicable equipment, and travel to the designated work site. The team will generally stay overnight Monday and Tuesday and return to the office Wednesday evening and finish out the rest of the week in the office.

Those selected will participate in various tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Conducting annual and trend groundwater level measurements statewide.

  • Performing compliance monitoring of swine facility lagoon monitoring wells.

  • Aquifer analysis through slug testing and downhole camera work, verifying well construction and hydraulic conductivity.

  • Maintenance and installation of continuous water level recorder and telemetry equipment across the state of Oklahoma.

  • Water quality/water quantity sampling of wells within the Groundwater Monitoring and Assessment Program (GMAP) including collecting samples, performing field chemistry tests, cleaning and preparing equipment for field use.

  • Contacting landowners to obtain permissions for land and well access.

  • Operating, maintaining, and cleaning equipment including pumps and water quality sondes.

  • General data entry, review, and maintenance tasks.

Preferred Education and Experience:  A bachelor's or associate degree with at least 24 semester hours in a physical, natural, or biological science, chemistry, geology, hydrology, physical geography, epidemiology, environmental science, environmental health, or civil, agricultural, environmental geological, or chemical engineering is preferred but is not required. Knowledge or experience in various fields is beneficial; including but not limited to earth or environmental sciences, groundwater, agriculture, and geographical information systems.

Special Requirement: Overnight travel is required. Occasionally, it may be necessary to stand for extended hours, walk long distances over various terrains such as pastures, and muddy fields and climb ladders and/or stairs. Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and be able to drive a vehicle for several hours a day. Moderate to heavy physical labor including but not limited to: carrying field equipment, or operating pumps or generators is required.  Basic knowledge of Microsoft© Excel is required.
