The Underground Estimator prepares accurate material takeoffs for DOT, public, and private underground construction projects. This role reviews project plans and specifications, identifies required materials and certifications, and works closely with customers, sales representatives, vendors, and engineers to ensure projects are quoted accurately and efficiently. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable reading blueprints and specifications, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.


Essential Responsibilities:

•    Prepare accurate material takeoffs for DOT, public, and private underground projects. 

•    Review plans, blueprints, specifications, and addenda to determine material requirements. 

•    Identify required product specifications, certifications, and compliance requirements. 

•    Prioritize projects based on bid dates, project type, and business needs. 

•    Communicate with customers, sales representatives, vendors, and engineers to obtain project information. 

•    Organize takeoffs by bid item or utility type, including water, sanitary, and storm. 

•    Update takeoffs when project plans, specifications, or addenda change. 

•    Maintain organized project files, documentation, and correspondence. 

•    Assist with obtaining material pricing and preparing project quotes. 

•    Stay current on underground products, specifications, certifications, and installation methods. 

•    Provide accurate, timely support to the Underground Sales team throughout the bidding process.


Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience preferred. 

•    Two or more years of related industry, estimating, construction, or customer service experience preferred. 

•    Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and project documents. 

•    Strong attention to detail with solid analytical and mathematical skills. 

•    Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. 

•    Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. 

•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Eclipse or similar ERP systems is a plus. 

•    Knowledge of underground, waterworks, plumbing, or construction products is preferred. 

•    Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 

•    Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment screening.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:


•    Primarily office-based work in a professional indoor environment. 

•    Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and use a computer and other office equipment. 

•    Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, grasp, and handle materials or documents. 

•    Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 

•    Requires the ability to review detailed plans, blueprints, specifications, and computer screens. 

•    Must be able to perform essential job duties safely and maintain consistent alertness. 

•    Occasional travel may be required.
