RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


  • Support and execute strategic safety initiatives and objectives.
  • Promote a culture where safety is a core organizational value.
  • Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee driver qualification files, MVR reviews, and regulatory documentation.
  • Lead investigations involving vehicle accidents, injuries, and safety incidents.
  • Manage safety audits, corrective actions, and performance reporting.
  • Monitor fleet safety performance and driver accountability programs.
  • Partner with Recruiting to establish hiring standards aligned with safety goals.
  • Evaluate MVRs, PSP reports, licensing, certifications, and safety-related qualifications.
  • Assist in evaluating applicants with accidents, violations, or compliance concerns.
  • Support pre-employment screening and onboarding processes.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT driver qualification requirements.
  • Manage the company ELD and telematics programs to ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service compliance.
  • Monitor and analyze telematics data including speeding events, hard braking, rapid acceleration, following distance, seatbelt usage, idle time, and distracted driving indicators.
  • Ensure effective utilization of safety technologies including ELD systems, dash cameras, AI-powered safety cameras, telematics platforms, and fleet monitoring tools.
  • Develop and maintain reporting dashboards to monitor fleet safety performance and identify trends.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop safety professionals and operational leaders. 
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships with Operations, Maintenance, Recruiting, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership. 
  • Strong conflict resolution and coaching skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and applicable state and federal transportation regulations. 
  • Strong understanding of Driver Qualification File (DQF) requirements. 
  • Working knowledge of CSA scores, Hours of Service regulations, and vehicle inspection requirements.
  • Knowledge of driver qualification standards and transportation industry hiring practices.
  • Integrity and ethical decision-making.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic operating environment.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree preferred in Safety, Transportation, Business, or related field.
  • 3+ years progressive safety experience, preferably in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations.
  • 2+ years leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA requirements.
  • Experience working in AS400 system, strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting safety investigations and compliance audits.
  • CSP, ASP, CDS, or OSHA certifications preferred.
