Description

Diesel Mechanic

Are you someone who enjoys solving mechanical challenges, working with your hands, and keeping heavy equipment running at peak performance? As a Diesel Mechanic, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of diesel-powered trucks and heavy mobile equipment. Every day brings a new challenge as you diagnose issues, perform repairs, and help ensure our operations run safely and efficiently.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and routine service on heavy equipment and diesel-powered trucks to maximize performance and minimize downtime. 
  • Evaluate and repair trucks and equipment that are not operating at peak performance, identifying the best solutions to get them back in service quickly. 
  • Thoroughly clean machinery and machine components, removing and reinstalling parts as needed to ensure reliable operation. 
  • Oil and lubricate moving parts to extend equipment life and maintain optimal performance. 
  • Inspect equipment for damaged, worn, or broken components, accurately documenting findings and recommending necessary repairs. 
  • Order and install replacement parts to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. 
  • Diagnose the root cause of unexpected equipment failures using strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 
  • Repair broken or malfunctioning equipment promptly to minimize production interruptions. 
  • Maintain detailed service records and prepare reports documenting inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed. 
  • Keep the shop clean, organized, and well-stocked by maintaining parts, tools, supplies, and inventory. 
  • Communicate regularly with management regarding equipment condition, maintenance needs, shop concerns, and any issues affecting operations. 
  • Coordinate with managers to develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and machinery. 
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager and/or Plant Engineer on new equipment installations and required machinery modifications. 
  • Perform necessary equipment modifications, conduct test runs, evaluate results, and make additional adjustments to ensure equipment performs as intended. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the maintenance team and overall operations.

Required Skills & Abilities

We're looking for a skilled, dependable mechanic who enjoys diagnosing complex issues, takes pride in quality workmanship, and thrives in a hands-on environment. The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Proven experience maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing both heavy mobile equipment and diesel-powered trucks. 
  • Thorough understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and the ability to ensure equipment remains compliant. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with teammates and management. 
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly discuss repairs, maintenance needs, and equipment concerns. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and accurate documentation practices. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and perform efficiently in a fast-paced, high-demand environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality. 

Education & Experience

We value both education and hands-on experience. Qualified candidates will have:

  • Vocational school, community college coursework in diesel technology, automotive technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience. 
  • Bilingual communication skills are preferred but not required. 
  • A current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus. 
  • Experience operating heavy mobile equipment is a plus. 

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position that requires working safely around heavy equipment and machinery. Candidates must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. 
  • Frequently bend, stretch, push, pull, kneel, climb, and move as needed to inspect, clean, service, and repair equipment. 
  • Visually inspect machinery and components to identify wear, damage, and repair needs. 
  • Safely lift, carry, and move materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
