Annual Benefit Allowance:

Retirement Savings Plans:
Pathfinder Defined Contribution Plan: available to employees who began State employment after November 1st, 2015.Â
Employer matches 6% with an employee contribution of 4.5%.
Employer matches 7% with an employee contribution of 7% or above.
OPERS Defined Benefit Plan: available to returning employees who were previously enrolled in OPERS.Â
Annual & Sick Leave (PTO):
15 days accrued annually during the first 1–5 years of service.
18 days accrued annually for 5–10 years of service.
20 days accrued annually for 10–20 years of service.
25 days accrued annually for over 20 years of service.
Sick leave: Accrued at 15 days per yearÂ
Paid Holidays:
11 paid holidays per year
Longevity Pay:
Longevity payments are paid annually to eligible State employees with a minimum of 2 years of State service.Â

Job Description
Basic Purpose
This is the Engineer Apprentice level, an entry level position where applicants have an interest in gaining exposure and experience in the transportation industry from the perspective of state government; particularly in the areas of highway design, construction, and maintenance. Summer Engineer Apprentices will have the opportunity to gain work experience by participating in highway construction and maintenance activities such as:
- Assisting a survey crew
- Assisting with traffic hazard surveys
- Documenting daily construction activities and project status
- Maintaining highway rights-of-way
- Repairing highway safety appurtenances
- Repairing roads and bridges
- Testing and inspecting construction materials
- Verifying that project elements are built according to plans and specifications
- And much more.
Returning Summer Engineer Apprentices will further their experience by participating in the above activities at a more in-depth level, as well as possibly being assigned to their own project.
Field assignments are available at all 77 Oklahoma counties and are subject to location and availability.
Education and Experience
Education and experience required at this level include a high school diploma (or equivalent), with strong scores in subjects involving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Ability is required to perform manual labor; to follow instructions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Special Requirements
- At least 18 years of age,
- Enrolled at an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university and
- A United States citizen or legal resident of the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act, 8 U.S.C. Section 1324b. (Sponsorship for an employment visa is not currently available.)
