Job Description:

General Description:

Under general supervision, will provide services as a Respiratory Therapist and Educator for all appropriate age levels and in all areas that are served by the Department.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position.  Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. 

  • Majority of duties will be as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Administers therapeutic treatments as prescribed by attending medical staff.
  • Records treatment information and patient’s treatment response in their computerized medical record.
  • Acts as a resource person to medical staff.
  • Performs invasive and noninvasive diagnostic testing and monitoring of patients.
  • Provides age appropriate care to patients.
  • Ensures that respiratory equipment is cleaned and maintained.
  • Maintains necessary respiratory therapy records.  Will be part of the quick response team for cardiac and respiratory arrests.
  • Performs Educator tasks and duties as outlined in the Respiratory Care Department’s Policy Manual.
  • Coordinates new employee orientation and mentors new employees.
  • Provides educational assistance to the students from contracted school programs.
  • Provides clinical expertise and education to departmental staff members.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree (or higher) from an accredited Respiratory Care Program.

Experience: 3-5 years of critical care experience.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT). Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) upon hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association) required upon 3 months of hire. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (American Heart Association) required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques of Respiratory Therapy and the operation and repair of respiratory equipment.
  • Clinical decision making skills appropriate to patient care as it relates to the pulmonary and cardiac system, age of the patient and the ability to interpret the appropriate information to identify patient’s needs.
  • Knowledge of standard educational practices and techniques.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with coworkers and staff.
  • Good computer skills to include Word, Excel and Power Point.
