POSITION TITLE:   Alternative Education Aide

 DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:   Compass Program

 STATUS:  Classified – Non-Exempt, Full Time 

 HOURS OF WORK/CALENDAR: 172A / 7.0 hrs per day

HOURLY RATE: $19.00 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for providing support to the Compass Program. This position will assist with the day-to-day duties supporting students K-8 grade.

 

This job reports to the Compass Program Principal .

 

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

·         Utilize PBIS as well as other district adopted Social-Emotional curriculum and instructional tools

as a primary method of teaching and supporting students related to social-emotional well-being.

·         Positively support and correct inconducive behavior in accordance with district procedures and   

        rules including use of PBIS and ESI.

·         Assesses students in reading and math using a variety of tools (e.g. assessments, running records, etc.) for the purpose of determining student progress and learning needs.

·         Collaborates with and takes direction from classroom teachers for the purpose of aligning small group and individual instruction with classroom needs.

·         Coordinates with the building principal or other appointed supervisor for the purpose of prioritizing students to be included in the small groups.

·         Gathers materials for lessons, with the support from the classroom teacher, for the purpose of instructing students at levels appropriate to their needs.

·         Performs a variety of tasks, appropriate to the role of an Alternative Education Aide, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

·         Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  

·         High school diploma or equivalent. 

·         Job related experience is desired. 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

·         Willingness and ability to support students who may exhibit extreme behaviors, including elopement, physical aggression (e.g., hitting, kicking), and verbal outbursts, with a calm, consistent, and supportive approach.

·         Ability to intervene safely and appropriately and contribute to a team committed to success of all students.

·         verbal, written and listening communication skills 

·         Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously 

·         High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality

·         Skills in emotional regulation, prevention, and de-escalation.

·         Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data 

·         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment 

·         Highly collaborative team player

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)

·         Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results 

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions frequently requires the following physical demands: running, walking, sitting, standing, lifting 40 lbs floor to waist, carrying up to 55 lbs, pushing and/or pulling; climbing and balancing, reaching forward and overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.  The position involves having close visual acuity to perform activities of the job.  This position works in an indoor environment.
