Overview



We are seeking a full-time Team Leader Core Engineering at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for leading engineering team efforts to support relevant engineering functions.

Essential Functions

  • Directly supervise and lead the Engineering Applications Administration (EAA) team responsible for administering and maintaining development support tools
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop team members through coaching, mentoring, training, performance management, and career development
  • Lead the modernization and consolidation of engineering tools and platforms to improve developer productivity
  • Collaborate with other Garmin teams to improve cross-functional communication and productivity as well as track and distribute information
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure the operational excellence of the supported tools
  • Establish operational standards, governance, and best practices that promote consistency, efficiency, service quality, and long-term maintainability
  • Align team priorities, resources, and budgets with business objectives
  • Lead platform upgrades, automation, modernization, and continuous improvement initiatives

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related Engineering or technical discipline AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in an electronics design or engineering environment
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated experience leading a technical team as a first-line manager, including coaching, mentoring, performance management, and team development
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders, customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams at all organizational levels
  • Demonstrated ability to document processes, develop training materials, educate users, and promote adoption of new technologies and best practices
  • Experience gathering requirements and working directly with engineering teams and stakeholders to deliver effective solutions
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing initiatives and lead work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead initiatives, solve complex problems, and drive results with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience leading enterprise application administration and support platforms
  • Experience with user access management, governance, and security administration
  • Experience designing self-service solutions and workflow automation
  • Experience administering engineering tools and platforms (e.g., GitHub, Gerrit, Artifactory, XWiki, Azure DevOps)
  • Experience improving operational processes through automation and standardization
  • Experience supporting applications and tools in Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with incident management, service delivery, and SLA-driven support operations
  • Experience with analytics, monitoring, reporting, and cloud technologies (e.g., ELK, Kibana, Grafana, OpenStack, or similar platforms)
