Reporting to the Centre Director, the Cook is an integral member of the Inspire Early Education team, supporting the overall management of daily kitchen operations. This role is responsible for food preparation and cooking while ensuring compliance with the Inspire Early Education standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with established menus and guidelinesÂ
- Ensure compliance with CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) requirements, including portion sizes and documentation.Â
- Maintain accurate temperature logs and ensure safe food storage and proper food handling practicesÂ
- Prepare meals for children with special dietary needs and allergies, ensuring strict adherence to individual requirementsÂ
- Maintain and regularly update children’s allergy listsÂ
- Manage weekly food ordering, receiving, and inventory, including replenishing dishware and kitchen suppliesÂ
- Follow food portioning guidelines and maintain appropriate inventory levels to minimize wasteÂ
- Ensure compliance with all public health regulations and company policiesÂ
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness through daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules, including dishwashing dutiesÂ
- Occasionally prepare food for field trips, school-age programs, and community eventsÂ
- Adapt to changing duties based on the needs of the childcare centreÂ
What You Need
- Experience with CACFP is preferredÂ
- Current Food Handler CertificationÂ
- Experience working with children or vulnerable populationsÂ
- Experience in a daycare or childcare environment is an assetÂ
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstractÂ
- Strong written and verbal communication skillsÂ
- Clear criminal record checkÂ
- Ability to push, pull, and lift upto 45 poundsÂ
