Recreation Specialist - Youth Home - Full Time

JOB TITLE: Recreational Specialist -- MH Youth

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Non-Exempt

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT:   Mental Health Youth Residence   

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Residential Supervisor—MH Youth Residence             

POSITION SUMMARY:

Enhance quality of life for youth with mental health concerns by leading the development and implementation of recreational and social activities; providing counseling, instruction and assistance in all areas of daily living. Manage fiscal aspects of planned activities by planning events within budgetary limitations. Provide opportunities for youth to interact and build positive relationships with family members.

Provide documentation that correctly links services rendered to billing by recording services and daily progress of youth accurately, timely, and according to established procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education, Training & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy or related field

Experience working the children or adolescence with mental health concerns

Experience planning and implanting recreational activities

Knowledge of crafts and athletics

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Valid driver’s license that meets Agency standards

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

Ability to provide effective instruction and demonstration to staff and program participants

Ability to manage and be accountable for funds submitted by participants for program activities

Ability to engender enthusiasm and interest in program activities

Ability to adapt crafts and athletics to accommodate participants with varying needs and abilities

Ability to obtain and maintain Medication Administration

Ability to appropriately utilize approved CPI verbal de-escalation techniques in behavior management

SALARY:

$20.80 per hour starting rate
