Hands of Heartland is looking for compassionate and caring individuals to work with the people we support as a Direct Support Professional (DSP)/ Caregiver at our Residential locations in Omaha, NE. 

 

What a Direct Support Professional Does in Summary: Works directly with people with developmental disabilities assisting them with day to day living activities. Supports individuals with activities and developing skills in a home environment and in community settings. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere for the people we support
  • Provide services to address the wants and needs of people with developmental disabilities, which may include:
    1. Supporting personal goals
    2. Facilitating activities that provide people with socialization and connections to the community
    3. Engaging participation in recreation, social, and skill-building activities 
    4. Transporting individuals to appointments, community outings, or other destinations 
    5. Assisting with activities of daily living, such as, feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, etc. 
    6. Reinforcing therapies, including speech, behavioral support, and physical therapy
    7. Administering medications and other medical treatment as delegated by an HOH nurse
    8. Maintaining knowledge of each person’s specialized needs
  • Ensure each individuals’ rights are protected and they are treated with dignity and respect
  • Ensure documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner, including but not limited to individual plan data, behavior plan data, community integration logs, assessments, individual funds requests, mileage logs, maintenance requests forms, and supply acquisition forms
  • Keep day center interior and exterior clean, organized, and tidy
  • Complete all other duties as assigned

Requirements: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance. 
  • Must be able to pass all background checks. 


Preferred Requirement: Experience working with behavioral individuals although we will train you!



Shift & Hours Needed: 

  • Full time or part time hours available. 
  • Hours are 3p-12a Monday through Friday, Weekends 8a-11p on Saturday/ Sunday, or Weekends 11:59pm Friday to 11:59pm Sunday
  • Weekend Hours: Flexibility is available for weekends, meaning you could work part-time hours every other weekend as weekend only OR work every weekend for full-time hours. 

 

Pay: Starting at $17/hr for Residential services. We pay more for experience and if you have a CNA license. Incentives also available. We now offer for current CNAs to earn CEUs while working as a DSP (thanks to the Nebraska CNA bill we helped champion!)
