We are looking to hire an energetic floor tech to keep our community’s floors clean. The floor tech will be responsible for the maintenance of all floor areas, and for sustaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. You will remove spots from carpets, perform bonnet and extraction carpet cleaning, dispose of trash. You will operate floor sweepers, back pack vacuum cleaners, and shop vacuums.

To be successful in this role you will protect residents and visitors by keeping floors free from dirt and debris, and by being mindful of slip, trip, and fall hazards. Preferred candidates are motivated, meticulous, and able to work with numerous interruptions.

Job Summary

A Floor Technician in an independent living, assisted living, or memory care facility is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of all flooring surfaces, including carpet, vinyl, tile, and hardwood. Unlike standard custodial roles, this position focuses on specialized, periodic, and restorative floor care, such as stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet extraction, to maintain high sanitation standards for senior residents.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Strip, seal, wax, and polish hard surfaces (vinyl, tile, concrete) using buffers, scrubbers, and burnishers.
  • Perform deep cleaning, including hot water extraction, shampooing, bonneting, and routine vacuuming of common areas and resident apartments.
  • Adhere to infection prevention practices, including proper chemical dilution, labeling, and using "Caution" signs to prevent falls.
  • Daily cleaning and polishing of high-traffic areas, including hallways, dining rooms, lobbies, and elevators.
  • Perform deep cleaning projects, including scrubbing baseboards, cleaning exterior entrances, and moving furniture for full-room floor treatments.
  • Remove trash and bio-hazard waste, transporting it to designated disposal areas.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating commercial floor care equipment (auto scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, extractors) required.
  • Janitorial or facilities maintenance experience in healthcare, senior living, or hotel environment strongly preferred. Prior experience in floor care, janitorial, or housekeeping services is typically preferred.
  • Knowledge of floor maintenance techniques, cleaning chemicals, and SDS (Safety Data Sheets).
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods, and lift/move heavy equipment (often 30–100 lbs).
  • Ability to work professionally around seniors, showing patience and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must maintain and have an active CPR/BLS during employment.
