JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Will ensure proper maintenance of assigned college grounds to reflect a positive image of the college. Will maintain an attractive, pleasant, and safe external environment at the college.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform ground maintenance of college property such as mowing lawns, trimming shrubs and snow removal, to keep grounds hazard-free and attractive.
  • Perform landscaping duties such as planting and proper care of new and existing plants, installing and/or repairing retaining walls, edging, etc.
  • Inspect, maintain, and properly store all tools and equipment.
  • Inspect, repair and maintain sprinkler system as needed.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment daily.
  • Pick up litter, limbs, and debris and empty trash receptacles.
  • Assist in facility use set-ups.
  • This position is designated essential and may be called in for emergency situations, to include, but not limited to snow removal, structural failures, and natural disasters.
  • Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Monday - Friday

Spring, Summer, Fall Hours: 11:00am- 7:30pm

Winter Hours: 2:00pm- 10:30pm

This is an on premise position at Fort Omaha Campus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge in the use of pesticides, fungicides, turf chemicals and fertilizers.
  • Knowledge in lawn care and landscaping.
  • Skills in operation of standard lawn care and light construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Manual dexterity and motor coordination skills to perform grounds maintenance.
  • Ability of lift in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, push, pull, reach and walk to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Ability to handle extreme temperatures and harsh working conditions.
  • Ability to use a personal computer.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, written form, voice, e-mail etc.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year related work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability by college carrier to drive college vehicles.
  • E.P.A. certification preferred.
  • This position is categorized as “designated”, as it pertains to temporary College closures or adverse conditions.
  • Must pass background check.
