We are seeking a Regulatory Tax Accountant to join our team in our corporate office located in Sioux Falls, SD (4401 S Technology Dr, Sioux Falls, SD 57106). In this role you will ensure tax and regulatory compliance processes are executed efficiently, effectively, and documented in a manner that enables consistent re-performance by any qualified team member. You will contribute to the department’s ongoing process improvement and automation initiatives, proactively identifying opportunities to improve accuracy, scalability, and control across tax, regulatory, and financial reporting activities.


The Regulatory Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting multi-state tax compliance, regulatory reporting, accounting support, audit readiness, and process governance activities. You will prepare and maintain supporting work papers, coordinate with internal stakeholders and external advisors, and serve as a day-to-day resource for tax and regulatory inquiries.

The Role

  • Manage indirect tax and regulatory compliance activities, including sales and use tax, business licenses, gross receipts, and other state and local filings
  • Prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, supporting schedules, and related financial reporting for assigned areas
  • Support the annual income tax provision process by preparing schedules, reconciling activity, and coordinating with external tax advisors
  • Partner with Operations, Billing, Finance, and external advisors to ensure business transactions comply with tax and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain effective internal controls and audit-ready documentation for assigned accounting and compliance processes
  • Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and streamline tax and compliance processes while documenting updated procedures
  • Monitor tax laws, regulatory changes, and industry developments, communicating impacts to management
  • Support internal and external audits and participate in special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field required
  • 3+ years of accounting, tax, compliance, or related experience preferred
  • Multi-state tax and regulatory compliance experience preferred
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory compliance activities preferred
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Copilot or other AI), with advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems and tax software such as Sage Intacct, Avalara, or similar preferred
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and indirect tax concepts preferred
  • Ability to implement and document processes with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively across teams
  • Ability to perform prolonged computer work, including typing and viewing computer screens
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand, bend, kneel, crouch, or alternate positions
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through written communication
  • Must provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification; a driver’s license is required if the role involves driving
  • Passing of all pre-employment requirements (MVR, Background Check, Drug Screen)
