Cypress Rail Solutions is looking for an experienced, detail‑driven, CWI Welding Administrator to support welding quality, compliance, and training across multiple railcar and tank car repair locations. This role is ideal for a welding professional who enjoys teaching, maintaining high standards, and making a measurable impact on safety, quality, and productivity.

What You’ll Do

Support welding operations across multiple locations while ensuring welders are trained, qualified, and audit‑ready.

  • Administer and maintain welding documentation, including WPSs, PQRs, and Welder Performance Qualifications
  • Track welder certifications, continuity logs, expirations, and requalification needs
  • Qualify and maintain welding procedures through hands‑on testing and documentation
  • Deliver classroom welding instruction covering welding fundamentals, procedures, safety, and customer/code requirements
  • Conduct hands‑on welding lab training, skill evaluations, and qualification testing
  • Onboard new welders by ensuring all required training and certifications are completed before production work
  • Travel between shop locations to support training, weld testing, audits, and operational needs
  • Partner with Shop Managers, Welding Leads, Quality, and Safety teams to align training with production demands
  • Provide coaching and guidance to welders to reduce defects and improve consistency
  • Perform hands‑on welding on railcars and tank cars as needed to support training, procedure qualification, and production
  • Support audits and corrective actions related to welding compliance
  • Analyze weld‑related NCRs and identify opportunities for training or process improvement
  • Travel 50% of the time to other locations

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong attention to detail — welding documentation and compliance must be audit‑ready
  • Proven experience in railcar, tank car, or heavy industrial welding environments
  • Ability to confidently train and evaluate welders in classroom and shop settings
  • Working knowledge of AAR M‑1003, AWS, ASME, or similar welding standards
  • Comfortable traveling between shop locations to support operations
  • A professional, team‑oriented communicator who can positively influence quality and safety culture

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Senior CWI, or similar credential
  • 5+ years of welding experience in railcar, tank car, or heavy industrial environments
  • Experience administering or conducting welder qualification testing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality or maintenance tracking systems
  • Ability and willingness to travel (estimated up to ~50% based on business needs)

Preferred

  • Prior welding instructor or formal training experience
  • Experience supporting multi‑site operations
  • Experience participating in customer or regulatory audits
