Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, organized, and safety-minded General Laborer / Machine Shop Assistant to support day-to-day operations in our manufacturing facility.

This is a hands-on position that will assist with preventive maintenance, material handling, equipment upkeep, assembly, cleaning, deliveries, and general machine-shop support. The ideal candidate is reliable, mechanically inclined, willing to learn, and comfortable helping in different areas of the shop as needed.

Previous machine-shop experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train the right person.

Responsibilities

  • Assist maintenance personnel with preventive maintenance (PM) on CNC machines and other shop equipment.
  • Assist with cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting machinery and equipment.
  • Perform general machine-shop and facility maintenance.
  • Empty chip carts and safely handle and dispose of metal chips, scrap, and shop waste.
  • Maintain clean and organized machines, work areas, aisles, storage areas, and common shop areas.
  • Keep tools, materials, parts, supplies, and equipment organized and properly stored.
  • Assist with basic assembly and other production-support activities as needed.
  • Move, load, unload, and stage raw materials, finished parts, scrap, supplies, and equipment.
  • Operate a forklift/fork truck after completing required training and receiving authorization.
  • Drive company vehicles to pick up and deliver parts, materials, supplies, or equipment as needed.
  • Safely load and secure items for transportation and assist with loading and unloading deliveries.
  • Safely use common hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment.
  • Assist machinists, maintenance personnel, assemblers, and other departments as needed.
  • Identify and report equipment problems, leaks, damage, or unsafe conditions.
  • Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and company policies.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain dependable and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the company.

Qualifications

  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and willing to work.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Willing to learn and assist in different areas of the shop as needed.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and an interest in working around machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, cleanliness, and organization.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing, machine-shop, maintenance, warehouse, assembly, or material-handling experience is helpful but not required.
  • Experience using common hand and power tools is preferred.
  • Forklift/fork-truck experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must be willing to complete company-required forklift/fork-truck training.
  • Valid driver's license required with the ability to safely operate company vehicles for pickups and deliveries as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb, push, and pull as required.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment around machinery, noise, metal chips, oils, lubricants, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves when appropriate, and safety-toe footwear.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range is $20.00–$24.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, first-shift position. Overtime may be available or required depending on workload.
